The Canal Parade is a big event and requires a lot of preparation time. In January the registration of the canal parade start. An official canal parade commission including various people will determine who will be able to participate within the 80 floats. In case that there are too many sufficient parties a lottery event will decide who will become a part of the participations list. This year this event takes place on February 12th. All the participating parties then have the time to bring their ideas to reality in order to prepare their floats for August 5th.
The 80 spots are divided into various categories, wherein we need to bare in mind that the largest shoulders are able to lift the heaviest loads. For example the float of a LGBTI-network of a multinational pays more money to participate then a non-profit organization.
