De Kasteelboot won the ‘audience prize’ for the fourth time in a row this year. Their boat is paying attention to the socalled ‘Stonewall-riots’ in 1969. The Stonewall Inn was a gaybar in Greenwich Village. The police regularly raided the place, during which violence against the LGBTI-community wasn’t shunned. After one of many of these raids, lesbian Stormé DeLarverie got arrested, and the transvestites revolted under leadership of Sylvia Rivera. Eventually, a mass of 2000 LGBTI-protesters opposed 400 police officers. The Gay Liberation Front, the first advocacy group for the LGBTI-community, was founded following the riots. A year after, the first ever Pride took place. The Stonewall-people are our heroes. Marsha P. Johnson, Silvia Rivera, Stormé DeLarverie and all the others literally fought for our LGBTI-rights.
