Love — that's what it's about, nothing more and nothing less. Or, as ambassador Dolly Bellefleur puts it herself: “Ladies and ladies, gentlemen and gentlemen, however you may love, let love reign. Whether you are gay, straight, lesbian, transgender or bi. We are family. Long live diversity!”
Dolly, born Rudolf Lammert Douma, considers herself a late bloomer in many ways. She was already nineteen when she told her mother she was attracted to men, and 28 when she finally dared to fully commit to the theatre. “It’s actually hard to understand why I didn’t tell it earlier. From the age of fourteen I knew how I was wired. Besides, my mother came from a family of eleven children, two of whom turned out to be gay.” Dolly’s somewhat later coming out was not an issue at home. “My parents have always supported me through thick and thin. As an ambassador I want to pass on their unconditional love.”
