Visitor information

On this page you will find general information for your visit to Pride. For location-specific information, please refer to the website of relevant organisations. Tip: plan your trip in advance. Here you will also find all relevant visitor information around the Pride and the best way to travel.

Sustainability

From 1 March 2018, a new event policy is in force. One of the objectives is that from 2020, only sustainable events will take place in Amsterdam. From now on, all events with more than 2,000 visitors must meet special criteria in terms of organisation, energy, water, waste and mobility. The criteria will be introduced in phases. For more information: Sustainability.

Coming to our event? Make use of public transport! Check in and out easily with your debit card, credit card or mobile phone. So there is no need to buy a ticket in advance. Read all about OVpay here.

By train

Most activities take place in Amsterdam city centre. To do so, travel to Amsterdam Central Station. For the boat parade, you can also travel to Amsterdam Amstel station and walk from there to Theater Carré. There, there is plenty of space to watch the parade.

Check this NS page for up-to-date travel advice to Pride Amsterdam. We expect many visitors during the Canal Parade. Keep in mind that there may be extra traffic during your trip.

By car

During the boat parade, it is extremely busy and and parts of the city centre will be closed to traffic. The entire Prinsengracht will be made car-free and parking will be prohibited there from Saturday morning 00:01 am until the evening 23:59 pm. As a result, the capacity of the parking garages within the ring of canals will be almost completely in use.

It is therefore better not to come to Amsterdam by car, but if for any reason you still want to do so, we advise you to find a parking space at the ring road and get into the city by tram/bus or metro.

By metro

If you arrive by car or train at Centraal Station or Zuid, GVB's Noord/Zuidlijn metro 52 allows you to be first row at Prinsengracht for the Canal Parade within 10 minutes. To do so, get off at Vijzelgracht station.

By bicycle

The best way to get to the city centre is by tram or on foot. But if you do come by bike, make sure you put it in one of the designated racks or compartments. Bear in mind that many places in the city centre where you could normally park your bike are subject to parking bans during Pride. Be alert when you see yellow signs. If you do place a bicycle there, it will be cut loose and taken away by municipal enforcement. Bicycle gone? Call 020 - 334 4522

During Pride, we will also provide extra bicycle racks at various locations. Please note that one hour after the event, the racks will be removed and any bikes still attached to them will be unclipped and left behind. Charges for chains will not be refunded, nor are we responsible for any theft.

Clean Amsterdam

As Amsterdammers, we are very proud of our city and try to present it as beautifully as possible to its visitors. We understand that hundreds of thousands of Pride visitors can leave quite a trail of dirt behind but we want to keep this to a minimum and therefore ask everyone to use rubbish bags and deposit them in one of our waste bins along the route afterwards.

Pee on the toilet!

Sometimes you have to walk a bit further for a pee cross or queue longer for paid and clean toilets, we are aware of that and try to create as many toilet facilities as possible. We know we don't always manage to do that, but nevertheless, it shows little respect if you stand against a car or pull down your trousers in a porch. Urinating against trees or through mailboxes is also strictly forbidden and will be dealt with. Urinating in public is forbidden in Amsterdam via the General Local Bye-Law (APV) and therefore you will be fined €140. At the bottom of this page you will find a map showing all toilet facilities.

Visitor information for visitors with disabilities

We have also thought about visitors with disabilities and have created a safe environment where one need not fear ending up in the water with wheelchair and all. We will cordon off a section of quay for this purpose and also place wheelchair-accessible toilets there.

Younger than 18?

If you are under 18, you are of course also welcome at Pride but we will only serve you soft drinks and Virgin Cocktails. For young people, we even have a full programme called Youth Pride, for more information go to: Youth Pride

Celebrate Safe

The Pride organisation supports the Celebrate Safe campaign, a platform with tips and reliable information on conscious and safe partying. You can find more information on reducing these risks, drug policy and the possibility of having your drugs tested at Celebrate Pride Safe. You can find information on health at ggd.amsterdam.nl.
