Arkin is the biggest mental healthcare institution in Amsterdam, with a very broad range of healthcare services, treating more than 40,000 clients in the region every year. We deal with a diverse group of people and we regard it as our social responsibility to offer care in which consideration is given as a matter of course to that diversity and to inclusion. We want everyone, both clients and staff, to feel at home at Arkin, regardless of their sexual preference, gender identity, origin or cultural background.
Arkin devotes itself to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health conditions and making it possible to talk freely about the topic of mental health. We ensure that no prejudices come into play in that regard, so as to aid recovery. If we look at LGBTI+ young people, for instance, we see that they often have mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression and eating disorders. Unfortunately, we also see a lot of suicide attempts among this target group.
By joining in the Canal Parade at Gay Pride we aim to show solidarity with the community and demonstrate that our carers take the mental health of community members seriously. This is reflected in our theme: We see you.
