Culture brings people together and creates a connection. It’s not just about aesthetics but also about telling stories, increasing empathy and creating a world where everyone feels seen and heard. During Pride, AVROTROS honors the queer icons and artists from the cultural world.

Queer artists have made significant contributions to the art and cultural world throughout history. Through paintings, music, photography, film, and performance art, taboos have been shattered, stereotypical images challenged, and important dialogues initiated about gender, sexuality, and societal norms. Additionally, queer artists have played a crucial role in social movements, using their art as a form of activism and resistance against oppression and discrimination. This has strengthened communities and brought about change.

The main theme “Together” is especially visible in how we bring to life and celebrate queer icons from the cultural world together. Art and culture broaden our perspectives, bridge gaps, and allow us to view the world with a fresh lens.
