This year the Bi+ Boat from Bi+ Nederland will join the Canal Parade for the fifth time. The Bi+ Boat is the boat especially for bi+ people. Bi+ is an umbrella term for people who are attracted to more than one gender. In the Netherlands there are around 1.7 million bi+ people!

Bi+ Nederland is the national emancipation organisation that advocates for bi+ people and for a bi+ inclusive society. We want bi+ to be recognised in 2030 as a natural, positive, and equal sexual orientation. Investing in bi+ emancipation reduces pigeonholing and creates more space for people to be themselves. Bi+ Nederland calls for more space, more freedom and more love for everyone!

At a time when the rights and safety of lhbtiqa+ people are under pressure, it’s important to come together and speak out. Taking a stand for the emancipation, rights and equality of lhbtiqa+ people remains a core part of what Pride stands for. Bi+ people are often overlooked within lhbtiqa+, for example in representation, visibility and research. Yet their experiences differ negatively from those of gay and lesbian people in many areas, such as being taken seriously and mental health. That’s why it’s important to speak up explicitly for bi+ people and their emancipation. The theme of the Bi+ Boat this year is ‘Speak up for bi+ equality’. With bi+ people from around the world gathering for World Pride, we share our message in many different languages.
