MORE LOVE FOR EVERYONE
Did you know that there are approximately 1 million bi+ people in the Netherlands? So chances are that you too know some bi+ people. Or maybe you are bi+ yourself?
This year, the Bi+ Boat sails along with the Canal Parade! Under the banner ‘more love for all’ we represent bi+ people. Bi+ is an umbrella term for people who can fall for more than one gender. In this way we fit in nicely with the theme of this Pride: My Gender, My Pride. Many bi+ people look beyond gender.
Bi+ Netherlands wants to create more space for all people who cannot be pigeonholed. Especially bi+ people are often to be found outside these boxes; they are open-minded and can be found in various forms of relationships. As an organisation, we are committed to the well-being of bi+ people. Research shows that many bi+ people experience unwanted behaviour or bullying more often than straight, gay and lesbian people. In addition, 80% of bi+ people want their orientation to be taken more seriously. So there is still a lot to be gained.
Investing in bi+ empowerment means less pigeonholing and more space for everyone. In the two and a half years of our existence, we provided the first major national study on bi+ people. Because of our efforts, Bi+ is on the agenda of the national government and even for the first time, a motion was submitted (and passed) on bi+ people and sexually transgressive behaviour. Besides our activities on the political level, we bring bi+ people together and strengthen their position, we guide (lhbti+) organisations in bi+ inclusive work and we are initiator and pioneer of an international network of bi+ activists.
Bi+ Netherlands is a flexible, positive and ambitious organisation. We bring a new way of thinking, beyond binary boxes and categories. Together, we work towards one vision, namely: “in 2030, bi+ will be seen as a natural, positive and fully-fledged sexual orientation in the Netherlands.”
During the Canal Parade, our Bi+ Boat represents not only the largest group within the rainbow community, but also a growing movement of wider views and less compartmentalisation.
