#21 Bi+ Nederland

This year Bi+ Nederland joins the Canal Parade for the second time with our Bi+ Boat. With our boat we represent bi+ people. Bi+ is an umbrellaterm for people that are attracted to more than one gender. There are around one million bi+ people in the Netherlands.

Bi+ Nederland is the national emancipation organization for bi+ people, that is committed to creating a more bi+ inclusive society. Together we work towards one vision, namely: “in 2030 bi+ is seen as a self-evident, positive and valid sexual orientation in the Netherlands.” Investing in bi+ emancipation leads to thinking outside boxes and more space for people to be themselves. That is why the theme of our boat this year is ‘more space for everyone’. Together we are committed to creating more space for everyone to experience love, lust, desires and relationships.

Despite bi+ people being the biggest group within the lgbti+ community, they are often underrepresented. There is much invisibility and bi+ phobia, also within lgbti+ communities. Therefore bi+ people have a hard time finding and building a community, even though many do seek that. That is why the Bi+ Boat is a real community boat. With this boat as part of the Canal Pride we show that bi+ people really are part of lgbti+ communities. We are included!
