The Center for Sexual Health (CSG) of the GGD Amsterdam, better known as the STD outpatient clinic, should not be missing from the PRIDE and is extremely happy to be sailing again this year. The theme ‘My gender, My pride’ is tailor-made for us and very appropriate. After all, the CSG stands for diversity and our diverse team is committed to improving the sexual health of Amsterdam citizens every day! There is still a lot to be gained in terms of acceptance and emancipation of gender identity and our clinic is happy to play a part in this. An example of this is the Trans-clinic a unique collaboration since January 2021 between Trans United Europe and the GGD Amsterdam in trans-specific care. In addition to sexual health care, this is aimed at hormone use and counseling.
With this boat from the CSG of the GGD Amsterdam, we promote the importance of healthy and enjoyable sex and we put our wide range of care for the LGBTIQ + in the spotlight.
Queer musician Kiri Mioki performs together with the CSG team, in beautiful outfits made by 4 queer fashion designers, a self-written remake of ‘Go West’ by the Village People called ‘Go PrEP’. Through this well-known sing-along we let the public know the importance of PrEP in a light-hearted way. The classic act of the Village People with the 4 stereotypical masculine roles gets a new interpretation. A ‘femme’ police officer and a space traveler, among others, celebrate gender freedom and inclusivity. We promote the use of PrEP, an effective means of prevention to protect you well against HIV.
This remake of the iconic band of the Village People’s ‘Go West’ from the 1970s was all about chasing your dreams. The Pet Shop Boys re-released the song in the midst of the AIDS crisis. Then it was about escaping the suffering the LGBTIQ scene was dealing with at the time. Now there is PrEP as a means of prevention and we live in a different and new era.
It’s time for a new version of this song, Kiri Mioki sings live, full-throttle ‘Go PrEP’.
The act is festively supported by the enthusiastically dancing CSG SOA poli crew, together a colorful group people on a boat full of slogans and symbols that inspire and challenge the PRIDE audience to dance and celebrate gender freedom and sexual health.
Be free how you feel, take care of yourself and others, sexy and safe!
