YOUR GENDER, OUR VALUE!

DNB is one organisation, but in its work it constantly changes identity: one moment it is the central bank, then it is the bank supervisor and finally the resolution authority. DNB is there for and by all Dutch people, and this is also reflected in its staff, women, men, but also all genders in between or who simply cannot be pigeonholed.

For many, DNB represents diverse values. Its employees are the intellectual capital of DNB. The gold in its cellars represents the trust in our money system. Finally, the banknotes and coins in everyone’s wallet.

Many feel that with the introduction of the euro in 2002, part of the Dutch (guilder) identity disappeared. DNB Pride, our LGBTIQ+ network that celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2022, uses the Canal Parade 2022 to present banknotes with a new identity. With their design, we show and celebrate the diversity of genders. The symbols of the genders come together with the symbols of the coins and we incorporate the colours of the (trans) gender flags in the notes.

Also, the portraits return on the banknotes! We replace the bridges on the euro banknotes by a bridge to LGBTIQ+ advocates. The choice is diverse. Think of heroes like Marsha P. Johnson, the American activist and drag queen. But also Sylvia Rivera, the queer Latina who fought for transgenders and non-conformers. Writer James Baldwin is not missing, nor is RuPaul. And closer to home, like Jacob Schorer (Schorer Foundation) and Benno Premsela (COC).

On the boat, DNB celebrates the great diversity of genders by emphasising their ‘value’ with colourful banknotes, on the side of the boat and on flags. By waving the flags, we show that there is more behind the surface. On the boat, genders, currencies and heroes of the LGBTIQ+ struggle are put in the spotlight. This way, we show their value: all genders, our value, our pride!
