Description
Gamestate is a modern arcade and entertainment concept with more than 60 locations in 8 countries, led by entrepreneur Roel Veltmeijer. As an openly gay and HIV‑positive entrepreneur, he is actively and visibly committed to equality, inclusion, and diversity. His involvement in LGBTQIA+ rights and raising awareness about HIV and AIDS through Het Amsterdam Diner is also deeply woven into the organisation. Gamestate is supported by a diverse, multidisciplinary team bringing together many backgrounds and perspectives.
At its venues Gamestate combines high‑end arcade games, social competitive games, and hospitality to create accessible, social, contemporary experiences. People gather here daily to play, laugh, and meet one another. Gaming acts as a universal language: who you are, how you look, or who you love doesn’t matter — playing together is what counts.
By taking part in the Canal Parade, Gamestate wants to make this unifying power visible. Pride is seen as more than a celebration: it’s a powerful moment to emphasise the importance of safe, inclusive meeting places.
The boat, PLAY FOR UNITY, brings this vision to life as an interactive experience. At its heart is a large‑scale sing‑along inviting both passengers and people along the quayside to sing together. Digital tickertapes display the lyrics live, while a visual UNITY meter made of charged hearts grows as more people join in.
The more voices that come together, the stronger the signal of solidarity.
