LGBT Asylum Support almost couldn’t sail this year, that’s why Pride Amsterdam made sure they would and we can proudly present a second #BOATZERO.

LGBT Asylum Support is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded in 2015. The organisation supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex asylum seekers throughout the asylum procedure. The organisation is both a guide and a safety net for LGBT asylum seekers and is in contact with over 600 LGBT asylum seekers.

Almost daily, the foundation reports unsafe situations to which vulnerable LGBT asylum seekers are exposed in their asylum seekers’ centres to the COA (Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers). According to the Pink Police Network, the organisation is their eyes and ears. Every week, the organisation successfully assists LGBT asylum seekers in court with substantiated reports, who have been wrongly rejected by the IND. The organisation actively lobbies and consults with the government for safer reception locations. But also fair assessment by the IND (the Immigration and Naturalisation Service) through petitions since 2017 under the name #NietGayGenoeg.

During the 26th Pride of Amsterdam the book “NietGayGenoeg De Naakte Waarheid – The naked truth” will be launched in which 28 LGBT asylum seekers tell their story. But in addition, the Foundation will sail with these incorrectly rejected LGBT asylum seekers, as a sailing protest with boat Zero, as the first and extra boat during the Canal parade.
