The Dutch sports boat – NOC*NSF and sports federations

The sports sector is committed to creating a sporting environment in which everyone in the Netherlands can enjoy sports in a pleasant and safe manner. This is important because, unfortunately, full acceptance of the LGBTQI+ community in sports has not yet been achieved. For example: we know that LGBTQI+ individuals often find it challenging to openly express their sexual orientation at their clubs, and homophobic remarks are still too common in sports.

That’s why we are working hard on this issue. We do this in various ways, such as by assisting and supporting clubs, providing a platform for those who advocate for or identify with the LGBTQI+ community, and by raising awareness about LGBTQI+ issues in sports. The Canal Parade is one of the occasions where we do this. On August 3, the Dutch sports boat will sail through the waters of Amsterdam. Sports federations, (elite) athletes, officials, staff, and volunteers will join the parade. Together, we raise a collective voice for the inclusion and acceptance of LGBTQI+ individuals in sports!
