During World Pride 2026, Amsterdam becomes the global stage for freedom, visibility and connection. This year’s theme is UNITY. A simple word, yet in our times increasingly under strain.

We draw on an image nearly everyone recognises: The Kissing Couple. Perhaps the most classic Dutch souvenir, found in every tourist shop in Amsterdam, carried in suitcases around the world, and as familiar to many Dutch people as to visitors. An iconic symbol of closeness and humanity.

In our new context, that image takes on a different meaning. What happens when we apply this quintessentially Dutch symbol of love and connection to people who are more often seen as symbols of division?

That’s why we portray Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin as a kissing couple. Not to provoke, but to pause power for a moment and bring something human to the surface.

Unity is often sought through power, proving you’re right, or magnifying differences. We believe true rapprochement begins elsewhere. Not with systems or power blocs, but with people. With us.

This asks something of each of us every day — in conversations where we disagree, within families, at work, and among friends. UNITY doesn’t start on the world stage; it begins between people willing to truly see one another. Our crew share this message and express it vividly in their presentation.

We, Jordy Vos and Erik Broeder, are the initiators of The Kissing Couple. We are now well known within the Canal Parade. In 2026 we will participate for the fourth time. Last year our boat 'Liefdessoldaten' won first prize in the creation category. Together with a large group of friends and acquaintances we prepare, build and decorate our boat every year. With our participation we aim not only to create something festive, but also to surprise people, make them smile and invite a moment of reflection. We look forward to doing it again this year!
