Upstream Amsterdam is the swim club of the LGBTQI+ community in Amsterdam — and with nearly 200 swimmers, the largest in the Netherlands. From the beginning we have proudly joined the Pride parade.
This year we carry a clear message: “Don’t be afraid of us.” Sadly, we still see that especially younger people can feel fear or distance towards the LGBTQI+ community. Through our presence we want to show who we really are: open, engaged, strong, and above all, connecting.
You’ll see all of that on this boat — from choreography to music and eye-catching outfits. But Upstream is more than just today. We are a close, active community that trains several times a week in three pools across Amsterdam. We also compete in national and international events and are socially committed within the city.
We are proud to sail here again. Last year we won third place — and of course we hope to place again this year… or maybe even higher!
