Skeleton in a Summer Dress tells the story of Mike, a young trans man who has waited seven years to be seen as his true self. In this poignant, hand-drawn graphic novel a cemetery stands in for the long wait times in transgender healthcare: a place where people are stuck in a body and identity that don’t fit. The story is at once confronting and hopeful, showing how vital recognition, freedom and autonomy are. The exhibition brings together the work of comic artist Michael Visser and writer Kris van der Voorn, offering an intimate look into the experiences of trans people waiting for care.
