GAY&A
A moving, funny and personal performance about love, identity and family secrets in the 1980s. Familiar, powerful and painfully relevant. (Dutch with English surtitles)
Description
GAY&A – A story from then, with questions for now.
What if both your father and your sister come out? In this candid theatre performance, actress Linda van Pesch-van Ginneken looks back on her childhood in the 1980s: a time of silence, bad haircuts and a deadly AIDS virus. While her father and sister struggle with their identities, her mother tries to hold the family together. She, the youngest daughter, unwittingly organises a surprise party. But will her father come home?
With humour, vulnerability and sharp observations, Linda explores what family, love and identity mean. GAY&A deals with events from 35 years ago, but how far have we really come since then? Can we even talk about history, or is everything still painfully relevant?
