Description

Kidnapping, Caucasian Style is a project by Stefan Ragimov, curated by Gabriella Uhl. The title functions as a metaphor for the loss of autonomy and safety experienced by queer individuals in parts of the Caucasus. It does not refer to a literal act, but to social, cultural and political pressures that constrain identity and silence difference. Through painting, photography and installation, the work reflects on how freedom can be undermined by fear, control and exclusion. In a region shaped by strong traditions and strict norms around gender and sexuality, visibility often carries risk. The project explores vulnerability, silence and the right to self-determination.
