From art project to queer icon. Mykki Blanco began as an experiment around a teenage girl who posted vlogs and raps on social media. More than ten years later the artist has grown into an established figure and a leading voice within the queer community, reflecting self-discovery and identity through art.
Mykki has pushed hip hop to unprecedented, unbound limits by blending noise and experimental elements with club and trap influences, while also setting a clear course within a genre historically entangled with problematic ideologies like misogyny, homophobia and transphobia. Although Blanco is widely recognised as a pioneer of the ‘queer rap’ subgenre, their new music shows a strong artistic evolution that breaks genre boundaries.
