On 3 August the photo exhibition The Hands That Heal opens at Oosterdokskade, Amsterdam. Doors open from 16:30, organised together with Trans Pride Amsterdam.
Transgender people worldwide are often denied care or face stigma within mainstream healthcare. In response, trans communities have set up their own clinics — run by and for trans people — around the world. The Hands That Heal portraits these clinics and the people behind them: not symbols, but individuals living full lives who built something meaningful.
Creators Samira Hakim (Trans United Europe) and photographer Ernst Coppejans talk about how the project came about. People portrayed in the featured locations will also be present.
