World Pride: The LGBTQ History Tour of Amsterdam
The LGBTQ History tour. From from sodomites to LHTBQIA+ — what unites the community? Stories, forgotten heroes, facts; Henk is Amsterdam’s queer storyteller.
Description
A two-hour walk weaving together facts, stories, heroes and more. We start at the Homomonument, the world’s first monument to LGBTQ victims of WWII. We walk through beautiful historic Amsterdam and enjoy the tour while I tell the story of the Netherlands’ gay history. Being lesbian in the 17th century, persecution over the centuries, the 1970s when women’s emancipation began and a writer documented our individual responsibility. Amsterdam as the gay capital of the world. How did same-sex marriage come about? We finish at café ’t Mandje, opened in 1927 when gay people were still actively persecuted. Enjoy a lovely walk and a fascinating history.
The tour is available on various days between 23 July and 31 July 2026.
