Participant registration Canal Parade possible until 2 February

By Pride Press • 19 January 2026

Preparations for the WorldPride edition of the Canal Parade begin

The countdown to WorldPride 2026 has begun. Registration for the world‑famous Canal Parade is now open. From today until 2 February, interested parties can apply to take part in the WorldPride edition on 1 August 2026. This will be the first time Stichting Pride Amsterdam organises the WorldPride. We expect a significantly higher number of entries and interest from all continents. The bar is therefore set high: participants are expected to present a concept that connects with the theme UNITY. After assessment by the selection committee, it will be announced on Valentine’s Day who may join the fleet of 80 boats that will be seen around the world.

The unique character of Pride, in the form of the world‑famous Canal Parade, certainly played a role in the decision to award Amsterdam the WorldPride. “As every year, we only have 80 places available. With so much international attention we expect every parade participant to raise the bar,” says Lucien Spee de Castillo Ruiz, director of Stichting Pride Amsterdam. “With the celebration of 25 years of marriage equality in 2026, we also mark the ongoing, global struggle for equal rights. Our theme UNITY gives everyone room to interpret and express that in their own way. Especially in these often bleak times for activists, we look for points of light — together we stand and remain stronger.”

UNITY

For WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 the theme is UNITY. For the first time in history Amsterdam will host the WorldPride. WorldPride is a global event that promotes visibility and awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues internationally. Amsterdam, home to more than 180 nationalities, is one of the world’s most diverse cities. Our strong and vibrant LGBTQIA+ community gives the city a unique atmosphere of freedom, creativity and tolerance. In 2001 the very first same‑sex marriage took place here. In 2026 we celebrate 25 years of marriage equality — a milestone that is still not a given worldwide. WorldPride Amsterdam will take place from 25 July to 8 August 2026.
