Making queer stories visible

Arts & Culture Pride is the arts and culture programme within Pride Amsterdam that highlights queer stories, perspectives and history. Through art and culture the programme brings together creators, cultural institutions and audiences, showing how imagination can contribute to expression, memory and emancipation. Art serves as a space where identity, freedom and community meet.

Within Arts & Culture Pride, past, present and future come together. Exhibitions, performances and cultural experiences offer space for reflection and celebration, showcasing the richness and diversity of queer culture in all its forms. Historical narratives sit alongside contemporary expression, creating a layered and varied programme that both deepens and inspires.

Queer stories have long been underrepresented in museums, theatres and the public sphere. Arts & Culture Pride helps make these stories visible and appreciated, emphasising that queer history is inseparable from art and culture. This creates room for recognition, dialogue and connection both within and beyond our community.

By and for the community

Arts & Culture Pride is a community-driven programme developed in collaboration with queer creators, artists and cultural institutions. It encourages cross-pollination, collaboration and the sharing of ideas, inviting new forms of cultural presentation. This open approach results in a programme that moves with the community and reflects its diversity.

Arts & Culture Pride makes space for a wide range of formats, such as exhibitions and installations, theatre, music and dance, historical and educational stories, and experimental or innovative projects. Encounter is central: between creators and institutions, and between art and audience. In doing so, the programme strengthens the cultural infrastructure around Pride and contributes to lasting visibility.

During Pride Amsterdam, Arts & Culture Pride is visible across the city with cultural activities. A joint cultural kick-off marks the start of the Pride season and brings creators, institutions and audiences together. Arts & Culture Pride therefore helps make Pride not only festive, but also enriching, meaningful and connecting.
