Since Pride began, activities with a religious or philosophical character have been organised. Over the years these initiatives have increasingly been brought together within a shared structure under the Pride banner. This development led to the creation of Religious Pride.
Religious Pride is supported by a committee made up of representatives from various religious and philosophical communities, including churches, synagogues and faith-based LHBtIQA+ organisations. Together they work to increase visibility, encourage encounters and build connections at the intersection of faith, identity and Pride.
Purpose and vision
Religious Pride curates a programme that is open, inclusive and unifying, with particular attention to LHBtIQA+ people of faith. The programme provides space for reflection, celebration, dialogue and meeting, and is accessible to everyone regardless of religious background or belief.
Although the position of LHBtIQA+ people of faith in the Netherlands has gradually improved, they still experience misunderstanding, prejudice or exclusion. This can happen both within religious communities and within the LHBtIQA+ community. That is why it is important that during Pride there are safe and free spaces where LHBtIQA+ people of faith can be themselves, feel supported, celebrate and share their contribution to emancipation and social acceptance.

Religious Pride is part of Pride Amsterdam and makes a content contribution to the programme, including special editions such as WorldPride. Within this context its own programme is put together in collaboration with the involved religious and philosophical organisations.
