What we stand for
Sport Pride stands for a sports world in which everyone can be themselves. Sport belongs to and is for everyone, but this is still not taken for granted everywhere. For many LGBTQIA+ athletes, sport does not automatically feel like a socially safe or open environment. Assumptions, exclusion and a lack of visibility still have an impact. Sport Pride is committed to changing that reality by increasing visibility, opening conversations and using sport as a powerful tool for connection and equality.
Since 2015, Sport Pride has been part of Pride Amsterdam. What started as an initiative to connect Pride to Sport and Sport to Pride has grown into a solid and diverse platform within the sports world. Over the years, Sport Pride has grown into a movement that brings together sport, emancipation and social change. Sport Pride believes that sport is more than performance alone: it is a place where people meet, build trust and dare to show themselves.
Our belief is clear: who you are or who you love should never be an obstacle to sports, coaching, guiding or being active within sports. A socially safe sports environment is not an extra, but a basic requirement.
Who we are here for
Sport Pride is for everyone who cares about sport and believes in inclusion. For recreational, amateur and elite athletes, but also for trainers, coaches, volunteers, administrators and supporters. For people inside and outside the LGBTQIA+ community who want to build a sports culture together in which respect, openness and equality are self-evident.
With a diverse and engaged team, Sport Pride works to connect individual athletes with the wider sports sector. Through collaborations with sports organisations, sports associations, clubs and social partners, inclusion is not only discussed, but also made concrete in policy, awareness and daily practice. This creates lasting impact, from athlete to trainer, from volunteer to administrator.
Sport Pride & UNITY
Under the motto Sport Pride - UNITY in Motion, we show how sport connects, creates visibility and brings movement to social change. In a city where freedom, diversity and equality come together, Sport Pride positions sport as an indispensable part of Pride. An annual highlight within this programme is the Sport Pride Conference, where sport, policy and social issues come together and there is room for meeting, dialogue and inspiration.
Our ambition
Sport Pride looks ahead. While important steps have been taken, the road to full inclusivity is not yet complete. LGBTQIA+ individuals still experience daily barriers and insecurity within sport. We do not accept this inequality. Driven by its own experiences, Sport Pride continues to build a sporting world that is fairer, socially safer and more accessible for all.
Sport Pride is more than a programme. It is a movement. And an invitation to join in during Pride, move along and put sport in motion together.
