WorldPride themed UNITY

For the first time in history Amsterdam will host WorldPride. WorldPride is a global event that raises visibility and awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues worldwide. Amsterdam, home to more than 180 nationalities, is one of the most diverse cities in the world. Our strong and vibrant LGBTQIA+ community gives the city a unique atmosphere of freedom, creativity and tolerance. In 2001 the very first same-sex marriage took place here. In 2026 we celebrate 25 years of marriage equality — a milestone that is still not guaranteed everywhere in the world.

UNITY as a symbol

In a world where tolerance and freedom for LGBTQIA+ people are not universal, Amsterdam aims to be a symbol of unity.

  • Unity = Tolerance
  • Unity = Connectedness
  • Unity = Love

The emblem of WorldPride 2026 shows thatunity is the key to fighting intolerance.

The power of patterns

For the visual identity we chose afan – or internationally akaleidoscope – where countless cultures come together in a colourful whole. The patterns reference centuries of cultural exchange through ceramics, textiles and traditions.

They bring together not only Amsterdam, but the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands and the many communities that make up our country:

  • Netherlands – Delft Blue tiles, tulips and windmills
  • Caribbean Netherlands – Pangi (Suriname), Wanglo-flower (Aruba), hibiscus and monstera (Curaçao), feathers from Aruba’s carnival costumes
  • Indonesia – Batik Kawung
  • Morocco – geometric motifs
  • Turkey – the national tulip

In addition, theKissing Boys andKissing Girls, inspired by the Schiffmacher Royal Blue Tattoo collection, reference love in all its forms.

UNITY in imagery

Together these elements form a rich palette of motifs that shows thatevery culture is an indispensable part of the larger whole. Like the patterns in a kaleidoscope that continuously create new shapes, Amsterdam is constantly evolving — yet always connected byunity in diversity.

WorldPride 2026 in Amsterdam thus becomes not only a celebration of love and freedom, but also a living work of art in which the whole world can see itself.

Several anniversaries in 2026

  • 25 years Opening of Civil Marriage
  • 30 years Pride Amsterdam
  • 55 years abolition of article 248bis
  • 80 years COC Netherlands

Theme

WorldPride in Amsterdam is an important milestone, a marker on the horizon we are working toward together. Equal and acquired rights are under pressure in many places and we as an LGBTQIA+ community must make our voice heard visibly and resolutely.

Impact

WorldPride must be a fully inclusive celebration, where new connections are forged and collaborations are born. After WorldPride, activists should return home energized and as part of a new wave of LGBTQIA+ emancipation and activism.

Pride Amsterdam since 1996

What began in 1996 as an event to attract more LGBTQIA+ visitors to our city in summer has grown into a nine-day festival and one of the largest and most beautiful celebrations worldwide. The city transforms into a rainbow of events, with more than 300 activities.
