WorldPride Amsterdam 2026

WorldPride Amsterdam will take place from 25 July to 8 August 2026! On 3 August, once Pride 2025 is over, you can find all the detailed information here. Here's an introduction to what to expect.

Amsterdam organises WorldPride 2026

For the first time ever, Amsterdam will host WorldPride. WorldPride is a global event that promotes visibility and awareness of LGBT issues internationally. It is licensed by InterPride and organised by one of its members. Pride Amsterdam has been a member since 2011. The first WorldPride was held in Rome in 2000 and subsequently organised in Jerusalem, London, Toronto, Madrid, New York, Copenhagen and Sydney. In 2025, Washington took charge of the organisation.

The reason for bringing WorldPride to Amsterdam in 2026 is the fact that in that year we will celebrate 25 years of open civil marriage. In doing so, the Netherlands made world history on 1 April 2001 . Although many countries followed, there is still a long way to go in the fight for equal rights. Not only far from home, but also in Europe and our own Kingdom, LHBTIs are still not treated equally. In many places, equal and acquired rights are under pressure and, as an LHBTI community, we must visibly and militantly make ourselves heard. The opening up of civil marriage has triggered a first wave, but things are moving too slowly. Therefore, the silver jubilee will once again inspire and connect the world with numerous events and activities.

Amsterdam Gay Capital of the World

"Amsterdam often led the lists in the past when it came to equal rights. Our world-famous boat parade, the 1998 Gay Games and the EuroPride in 1994 and 2016 put the city on the map. The WorldPride is unique and gives us the opportunity to regain the lost title of 'Gay Capital of the World' by working together to build an inclusive society with everyone in the Netherlands and in our Kingdom."
Lucien Spee de Castillo Ruiz, director Pride Amsterdam.

Theme

WorldPride in Amsterdam is an important milestone, a dot on the horizon that we are working towards together. Equal and acquired rights are under pressure in many places and we as the LGBTI community need to make our voices heard in a visible and combative way.

Impact

WorldPride should be a fully inclusive celebration, where new connections are made and collaborations emerge. After WorldPride, activists should return home full of energy and as part of a new wave of LGBTI+ emancipation and activism.

Pride Amsterdam since 1996

What started in 1996 as a celebration to attract more LGBTI+ visitors to our city in the summer has grown into a nine-day festival and one of the biggest and most beautiful celebrations worldwide. The city turns into a rainbow of events, with more than 300 activities.
