WorldPride under the banner of UNITY
For the first time in history, Amsterdam will host WorldPride. WorldPride is a global event that promotes visibility and awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues worldwide. Amsterdam, home to more than 180 nationalities, is one of the most diverse cities on earth. Our strong and vibrant LGBTQIA+ community gives the city a unique spirit of freedom, creativity and tolerance. In 2001 the very first same‑sex marriage took place here. In 2026 we celebrate 25 years of marriage equality — a milestone that is still not guaranteed everywhere in the world.

UNITY as a symbol
In a world where tolerance and freedom for the LGBTQIA+ community are not universal, Amsterdam wants to stand as a symbol of unity.
- Unity = Tolerance
- Unity = Connectedness
- Unity = Love
The logo of WorldPride 2026 shows thatunity is the key to counter intolerance.
The power of patterns
For the visual identity we chose afan – or internationally akaleidoscope – where countless cultures come together in a colourful whole. The patterns reference centuries of artistic and cultural exchange through ceramics, textiles and traditions.
They unite not only Amsterdam but the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands and the many communities that make up our country:
- Netherlands – Delft Blue tiles, tulips and windmills
- Caribbean Netherlands – Pangi (Suriname), Wanglo flower (Aruba), hibiscus and monstera (Curaçao), feathers from Aruba’s carnival costumes
- Indonesia – Batik Kawung
- Morocco – geometric motifs
- Turkey – the national tulip
In addition, theKissing Boys and Kissing Girls, inspired by the Schiffmacher Royal Blue Tattoo collection, reference love in all its forms.
UNITY in imagery
Together these elements form a rich palette of motifs that shows thatevery culture is an indispensable part of the larger whole. As the patterns in a kaleidoscope constantly take on new shapes, so too is Amsterdam always evolving — yet forever connected byunity in diversity.
WorldPride 2026 in Amsterdam will therefore be not only a celebration of love and freedom but also a living work of art in which the whole world can recognise itself.

Theme
WorldPride in Amsterdam is a significant milestone, a point on the horizon we work toward together. Equal and hard‑won rights are under pressure in many places, and we as an LGBTQIA+ community must make our voices heard visibly and resolutely.
Impact
WorldPride must be a fully inclusive celebration where new connections are made and collaborations begin. After WorldPride, activists should return home energised and part of a new wave of LGBTQIA+ emancipation and activism.
Pride Amsterdam since 1996
What began in 1996 as an event to attract more LGBTQIA+ visitors to the city in summer has grown into a nine‑day festival and one of the largest and most beautiful celebrations in the world. The city transforms into a rainbow of events, with more than 300 activities.
