On 3 August the photo exhibition The Hands That Heal opens at Oosterdokskade, Amsterdam. Doors open from 16:30, organised in collaboration with Trans Pride Amsterdam.
Transgender people worldwide are often refused care or face stigma within mainstream healthcare. In response, trans communities have created their own clinics, run by and for trans people around the world. The Hands That Heal portraits these clinics and the people behind them: not symbols, but individuals with full lives who have built something meaningful.
Creators Samira Hakim (Trans United Europe) and photographer Ernst Coppejans will talk about how this project began. People who were photographed at the featured locations will also be present.
